Dr. Shurooq Amin, Artist To The Bones

Dr. Shurooq Amin is a Kuwaiti conceptual/mixed media artist and an Anglophone poet.

Her paintings can be found at the Bayan Palace/Amiri Diwan (Kuwait), the Museum of Modern Art (Kuwait), OPEC headquarters (Vienna), Dubai, Marina Hotel (Kuwait), the Shiseido company (Paris), private corporations abroad (Switzerland), private international art groups (Mirca Art Group, Sweden), local private companies, New York, Damascus, Dubai, Cairo, Amsterdam, London, and in private collections.

On February 17th 2010 her painting “Society Girls” from the series Society Girlz came third top bid at the Inaugural Auction of Contemporary Arab and Iranian Art, held in Kuwait at Al-Corniche Club, by JAMM, co-founded by Lulu Al-Sabah; auctioneers Philips de Pury of New York, selling at 5 times above the estimate.

Her poetry has been published into two books to date, in more than 30 literary journals across the globe, and has been anthologized in the Gathering of the Tide: A Gulf Poetry Anthology by Garnet Publishers in association with the Virginia Commonwealth University of Qatar. “The Hanging of the Wind” is taught as part of the contemporary literature curriculum in universities in the Gulf  (such as the Virginia Commonwealth University of Qatar, (Doha). She is the first Kuwaiti to be nominated for the prestigious Pushcart Prize in December 2007 in the USA.

Shurooq will exhibit next in London at the Lahd Gallery on the 24th of February 2011.
