Curry Saves Taliban Captive

Yes! Food can save your life!!!

Somen Debnath, a 28 year old Indian man who was held captive of the Taliban for 24 days managed to get himself freed by cooking curry!! The militia just assumed he was a spy and kept him captive for over three weeks! He was blindfolded and strapped to a chair in a dungeon.

Apparently, he was traveling through Afghanistan as part of a five-year bicycle ride through many countries to promote AIDS awareness.

Due to the fact that he did not understand the captors’ commands, he was beaten and starved! But after realizing that one of the captors spoke basic English, he convinced them to allow him to cook the famous Indian meal, curry!

The captors were impressed and then decided he was safe and just let him go!

Double Ds in Double Ds!

Well… the first two Ds are for Day 1 and Day 2 and the other Double Ds are for Dean & Deluca <3!

Yes… two days in a row… two breakfasts at Dean & Deluca! Only common factor is that I was the main element in those both days! How? Well I always initiate it “Who’s up for Dean & Deluca’s breakfast this morning?” So its always me with different people… family, friends… Its what I like! Amazing food and amazing company! But I did it twice this time What can I say!? I feel like a queen when I go to Dean & Deluca! The manager, Mr. Najib Yaacoub, is just awesome! You see him running around between tables trying to please everyone there! When the place is full… he’ll take orders himself! I would really like to break out of the routine and go somewhere else, but I just wakeup and all I can think of is Dean & Deluca’s black coffee… Dean & Deluca’s waffles, eggs, figs…….! So yeah, it is becoming my second home! I swear some people who find me there say something like “Oh, I knew you’d be here!” or “I came here and first thing I did was looking around for you”…. or maybe something like “I ordered what you’ve ordered last week” (Its because I post pictures on facebook sometimes). Okay so enough about that already, and food pictures… here they come!

Munching on MUNCH!

I was contacted by MUNCH earlier this month and invited to try their BBQ Counter catering at home! Since I have been a loyal customer since their opening (I used to work in Dar AlAwadi, and munched on MUNCH so many times) and since I knew the quality of their food and interesting food mixes they have… I automatically said YES! How can I not!? Specially after reading p0ach’s review!

So I booked them for November 4th and asked them to come by at 7:45pm! Dana AlSalem, one of the owners, very nice lady and so dear to me, asked me if I have any special requests on the food items… I asked her to surprise me!

So on the day, I received a phone call to confirm the address and time… at around 7:40pm a small white mini van arrived…

Two, very nice, young men got out and checked the place out! They suggested where to place their station, we OK’ed it and quickly they started setting up the place for the MUNCH BBQ counter!

VELVET CUP

I came home and found this box calling me… open me!

I hesitated, maybe its a gift for someone at home, or something my sisters got to give to their friends or whatever… So I made few calls at home and turned out my sister got us red velvet cupcakes after her friend had told her about it from the VELVET CUP…. So I asked “Can I open it and have one please?”

Ohhh! Nothing but red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting! I tried one! Yes JUST one, because “sharing is caring”… I took my first bite and fell instantly in love with those little red devils! The cake was moist and light! The cream cheese sweetness level was just about right!
